  • UHF Male to UHF Female Lightning Arrestor
  • Requires grounding
  • Suitable for CB / HF / VHF / UHF

A28 lightning arrestors are designed to handle ambient discharge from close proximity storms, they are not able to handle extreme high voltage impact direct strikes. Best used as part of an existing lightning protection system, or for when direct strike protection is not required. Remember, if you do not have the resources to install a commercial grade lightning suppressor, the A28 is an alternative!

The A28 lightning arrestor is manufactured to be used in conjunction with standard coaxial cable. Due to the technical design it is not suitable for bare wire antennas. Also known as spark chamber arrestors, there is a PL-259 male connector on one end and a SO-239 female connector on the other end. A conductor runs through the middle of the arrestor creating the connection of the two ends of coax in the chamber. The arrestor must be connected to earth ground. A grounding screw is provided so 8 gauge wire can be attached to the chamber and be taken directly to earth. A 3 foot rod is best suited for this. When activated by high voltage this will divert current on the coax braid to earth.

The arrestor provides conductor protection via a small air gap between the conductor and the chamber. When lighting strikes, high voltage will register in the antenna coax. The chamber will flash over between the conductor and the ground creating a low voltage path, the extreme power will flow to the newly created path to ground. A set screw is provided. Adjust the screw so it is tight to the chamber, then back it off ~1mm for best results.
