THE DUAL PUSH-TO-TALK DIFFERENCE
The Baofeng UV-82 comes with a dual push-to-talk button. The dual PTT is a huge leap forward in HT technology. It allows you to transmit on two frequencies by the use of the rocker PTT switch. By pressing up you can transmit on "Frequency A" and by pushing down you can transmit on "Frequency B". Frequency A or B can also be used as a scanner of channels, frequencies, CTCSS and DTS tones.
VERSATILE RADIO FOR AMATEUR USE
The BaoFeng UV-82 works great on amateur frequencies, and contains the original FCC branding on the label. The UV-82 transmits on Narrowband (12.5kHz) and can be programmed for amateur frequencies in the field without the need of a computer.
The Baofeng UV-82 has one built-in receiver but can "watch" two channels (semi duplex). Monitor two different frequencies (even on different bands (VHF/UHF)) and the radio will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.
You can listen to the FM Broadcast radio, while still monitoring your radio frequencies in the background. Any incoming call will be given priority insuring you never miss an important call while listening to the radio.
The Baofeng UV-82 supports the most common Analog Tones. It supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Set-up your calling methods to call by group tones. Tone calling (private line / PL) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-82 supports the latest standards.
The Baofeng UV-82 can even send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones, for example echolink, IRLP, and repeater Autopatch.
The Baofeng UV-82 has an internal VOX (Voice Operated Transmit) function for convenient hands-free operation and can be used in conjunction with the included earpiece and mic. The VOX level and VOX delay time are adjustable to your needs.
You can program your Baofeng UV-82 exactly how you want it. There are 128 programmable memory channels. You can add or remove channels from scanning list using the free Baofeng VIP Windows compatible programming software. You can give channels alphanumeric names, using a computer. The radio has 2 power levels, allowing you to choose between conserving battery when short distance is all that's needed, or go high power for maximum range. Computer programming requires Windows, and the free Baofeng factory programming software.

How far will this walkeytalkey work Looking for 8miles in the mountains and wood. Ed chernis
The range of the radio has a number of factors. 8 miles is resonable providing there is a bit of elevation between the radios, and not thick forest. The video here will explain the theory a little better and allow you to make a more informed decision.
Are you getting more of these? My boss at work has an interest in possibly getting some.....
This is currently a regular offering and will be re-stocked. If you require a bulk order of more than 10 please contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
I am in the area and I would like to know if a direct pickup is possible....I like the pricing of something that I am looking at....thank you
Pre-paid orders can be picked up Saturday mornings. All the details for the curbside pick-up can be found here: https://www.fleetwooddp.com/pages/curbside-amateur-ham-radio-pickup-surrey-bc
Obtained my amateur license a few years back but never bought a transceiver. Would you. Suggest this as a good first ht? Better than the cheapest Chinese units but less than eg a Yaseu? Ie “good enough”. Was thinking of this and the programming cable....
The Baofeng UV-82HP has almost identical operation to the cheaper UV-5R, but has a louder speaker, a larger case and keypad, and more RF output power. A programming cable comes in handy but works best under Windows.
Does the V 85 antenna that comes with the UV 82HP work good or does it need a better one? Thank you
The V85 is equivalent to a standard rubber duck antenna. A 1/4 wave such as the Red Cap RC951S will provide a noticable difference.
