Which Retevis Radio is Right for You?

We carry Retevis radios across three main categories, each with different rules, use cases, and licensing requirements in Canada.

  • 🇨🇦 GMRS (License-Free): These are our most popular walkie-talkies for families, camping, and hiking. Models like the Retevis RT49P are powerful (2W), waterproof, and 100% license-free to use in Canada. This is the perfect, powerful upgrade from weak 0.5W FRS radios.
  • 📻 Amateur (Ham) Radio: For licensed hams. These are advanced, feature-rich radios like the Retevis RA89. They operate on the 2m (144-148 MHz) and 70cm (430-450 MHz) bands and require a valid Amateur Radio Certificate to operate.
  • 🌲 Business & Logging Radios: These are heavy-duty, professional radios like the Retevis RT29 and HD2. They are programmed for specific commercial frequencies, such as the BC Logging (RR) Channels. Use of these radios requires a proper ISED Land Mobile License for your business.

CRITICAL: A Guide to Retevis Plugs & Accessories

This is the most important part of buying Retevis accessories. Retevis uses three different plug types that are NOT compatible with each other. Please read this guide carefully to avoid returns.

Plug Type 1: The "K1" Standard Plug

This is the most common 2-pin accessory plug in the world. It is used by most Retevis handhelds and is also compatible with Baofeng and Quansheng.

  • Fits: Baofeng UV-5R, Quansheng UV-K5
  • Retevis Compatible: RA79, RA89, A3, RT3S, RT85, RT17, H777H, and more.

Note for RA89 Users: A standard K1 plug *will work* with the RA89, but it will not be waterproof. For a full IP67 waterproof seal, you must use the proprietary RA89 Waterproof Plug.

⚠️ Plug Type 2: The "RA89" Waterproof K1 Plug (Proprietary)

This plug looks like a K1 plug, but it has a different pin spacing and a screw-in gasket for a waterproof seal. It is NOT compatible with other radios.

  • FITS: Retevis RA89 ONLY.
  • DOES NOT FIT: Any other radio (Baofeng, Quansheng, RT29, HD1, etc.)

Plug Type 3: The "HD1 / HD2" Multi-Pin Plug (Proprietary)

This is a robust, multi-pin plug (similar to Motorola) for heavy-duty commercial radios. It is NOT a K1 plug and is not compatible with any other series.

  • FITS: Retevis HD1, HD2, HA1UV, and RT29.
  • DOES NOT FIT: Any other radio (Baofeng, Quansheng, RA89, RT85, etc.)
