The General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a UHF land-mobile FM radio service intended for short-range two-way voice communication, governed by Part 95 of the FCC rules in the United States. A license is required in the U.S., valid for 10 years, and available to adults, covering both the licensee and their immediate family members for personal or business use. However, non-family members, such as employees, must obtain a separate GMRS license.

In Canada, while GMRS licenses are not issued, certain GMRS-compatible radios may be used license-free, depending on frequency and power output. Radios designed specifically for use in the USA are not permitted in Canada.
