Reads swr without calibration

I’m new to CB radios set up was pretty simple. The radio itself is feature rich, a bright screen, and robust design. Got really lucky, Tuned a 3 foot antenna to have a SWR of about 1.9 on Chanel 1 and SWR of 1.0 on Chanel 40. The SWR meter built into the radio seems to be pretty good.

I got this radio to upgrade to Sideband. I also wanted FM. This radio has it all. It's pretty large, compared to some of the modern designs; but then it has a lot going on.It has many features, without being excessive. Some people have complained that operation while mobile is too complex. I don't believe so. Once you set up the radio via the menus, you really don't need to mess with anything else. Everything you commonly need to use is accessible with a knob or a single keypress.Notable functions: The SWR tuning function is great. It would make a tone that alerts you as you adjust your antenna. You can also get an onscreen warning if your SWR goes above a certain threshold. The NRC function is awesome. I don't consider a radio worth buying if it doesn't have this option. It dramatically reduces noise on both transmit and receive. The scan function *with lockouts* is great. While scanning, you can lock out an annoying channel with a keypress. This remains permanent until cleared in a menu. Auto squelch. Just turn it on and the radio determines when to open the squelch. Of course, you can manually adjust it too. I think it's a little aggressive, compared to the manual squelch. CTCSS/DCS on FM. The only way I would buy an FM CB. Allows a selective squelch.How does the radio actually perform? It does a great job. Transmit and receive audio is good. There is sufficient volume. Of course, you all probably want to know its power output. This is a legal Part 95 CB. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be under tuned like a great many radios can be. It's at 3.85 watts on dead carrier, close enough to 4 watts on AM and FM. A modulated AM carrier goes around 12 watts peak. Same for SSB. Certainly, a very functional radio. Modulation percentage is about 90%. Usually I see factory radios around 85%, so this is a plus. You really don't want to go higher, otherwise, you'll generate spurious emissions.Final thoughts: All in all, I'd give the radio a very good rating, worth 4 stars. I'm a stickler for receive audio. I think the George could have more robust receive audio. A bit too much midrange and not enough bass. There is a tone adjustment in the menu, that I need to play with and see what I can do.I am glad I got it and recommend it.
