Instead of inserting into the ear canal, the D-shaped speaker rests comfortably on the outside of the ear. This not only allows the user to maintain situational awareness of their surroundings, but it means the earpiece can be easily and thoroughly wiped down with a sanitizing wipe between shift changes.
