This "gender changer" barrel adapter converts an SMA-Male plug into another SMA-Male plug. It is the perfect, secure way to connect your "Chinese-style" handheld to a "Japanese-style" antenna.
Due to the nature and design of this adapter it provides the highest compatibility between all the various radio and antenna designs. As a result there may be a gap between the antenna and the radio body depending on the depth of threads. This is normal for this design. - Antenna Side (SMA-Male): Signal Stick, Diamond, Yaesu, or Icom antennas

This is a specialty adapter. This does NOT connect your handheld to a standard PL-259 coax cable (that requires an SMA-F to SO-259 adapter). This adapter is only for connecting two SMA-Male plugs directly.
